volunteer with us

We train all our new volunteers for the busy summer season on-site.

Volunteers WILL BENEFIT the animals greatly, however know that you will NOT HAVE DIRECT CONTACT with our patients (to reduce stress on recovering wildlife).
We also offer continuous training opportunities to our committed long-term volunteers.

our current needs

Communications – Do you enjoy educating members of our communities about respecting and coexisting with wildlife? We are replying to thousands of inquiries every year about displaced, sick or injured wildlife. Help us share expert advice with the public. Lend a hand once or twice a week on “your” emailing day – so we can continue to respond in a timely fashion 7days/week. Minimum commitment: 1 summer season (May-August).

Facility Construction & Maintenance – Are you a professional trades person or an experienced “Jack/Jill-of-all-trades”? Are you willing to volunteer with minor building tasks
at our wildlife care facility in Summerland? We organize group “work-bees” on a regular basis (usually in early spring and late fall). Get your name added to our work-bee-volunteer-list and we will contact you for upcoming projects. Option to sign up as a group of professionals for a one-time team building project (e.g. building enclosure extensions or installing a new pool, working on our food-plant garden, painting projects). No minimum commitment.

Transport – Not ready to commit weekly, but still would like to help in the summer season? We always need transport volunteers.
You could be picking up building supplies, physical donation items or new patients from designated dop-off spots across the valley. Our transport area stretches from Osoyoos to Salmon Arm. Availability of your own truck, trailer, van or any other type of vehicle is required (for insurance purposes). Your fuel is considered a donation to us, but you may get some nice IWRS swag and a lot of unique adventures await you!  Minimum commitment: 1 season, training required.

Bookkeeper or administrator – Help us keep our numbers straight! We are in need of a non-profit sector bookkeeper willing to volunteer time to assist us in our admin tasks. Work is under supervision of our society’s treasurer. Time commitment will vary but if you are willing to offer help a few hours seasonally, please contact us. Admin support on various levels can be discussed with our ED (are you a retired bookkeeper but would still like to help?)! Your support will make a huge difference to Interior Wildlife’s growth. No minimum commitment. Most admin tasks are: Nov-March.

Fundraising – Yes, it takes a village! Timing is flexible. You can work from your home-base and we meet online as needed (mainly in spring and fall seasons). Join our creative fundraising committee to find new ways of raising funds for our society and help us improve our programs! This can include searching for and drafting grant applications offered by private foundations, or looking for sponsors for our annual fundraiser. Help us plan and run events our annual “Wild About Spring Film Fest”. Experience in fundraising prep and follow-up is an asset, but not required. Creativity is a must! Attention to detail comes with practice – and practice you will get plenty of ! Minimum commitment: 1 fundraiser prep season (Dec-April).
